Hi All,
Starting From Scratch: A Step-by-Step Guide to Reinstalling Your OS From Lifehacker
If your computer’s running slowly and you’ve tried everything else, it might be time for a fresh install of your operating system. Here are some tips, tricks, and best practices to get through the process quickly and easily.
There are a lot of scenarios that can bring you to the realization that it’s time to start over. Perhaps you’ve had your machine for a few years, you pop in the same hard drive or SSD each time you upgrade, or you just install way too much stuff and it would be far more time-consuming to do a thorough cleaning. Whatever your case may be, wiping your drive and performing a fresh install of your OS is sometimes the best course of action, but it can cause other problems—like data loss—if you’re not careful. There are a few ways to approach the process but we’re going to look at approaches that’ll save you time—while still being thorough, of course.

I Just Updated My Blogroll On My Wordpress Blog To Include Facebook And Twitter
Hi All,
As the social networking world goes around and around I keep updating things. Starting with a Joomla! Web Site, then Wordpress Blog, now Facebook, and Twitter.
Consider me very socially networked. LOL!
But, first and foremost, I run Linux.
Linux Tutorial: Record Your Desktop From Nixie Pixel
Guys,
I love this Linux girl!
Lots of great Linux Ubuntu stuff there produced by Nixie.
“Despite all the lawsuits and injunctions by Sony to keep the PS3 Jailbreak out of modder’s hands, it appears that a third party has made a clone. The best part is, it only requires a cheap (approximately $40) development board by Atmel, and the requisite software is open-source. Get the Atmel code from GitHub and apply a small patch which will enable backup play (the code by itself only lets you run unsigned code, the patch allows for BD backups). The code is GPLv3. It would be highly ironic if someone ported this to Linux USB Gadgets, then you could use a Linux device to jailbreak your PS3, to which Sony removed Linux functionality. An Android phone would be suitable.”
Update: Twitter Apps And You
Hi @Hello
Over the coming weeks, we will be making two important updates that will impact how you interact with Twitter applications. We are sending this notice to all Twitter users to make sure you are aware of these changes.
What are applications?
There are over 250,000 applications built using the Twitter API. To use most applications, you first authorize the application to access your Twitter account, after which you can use it to read and post Tweets, discover new users and more. Applications come in many varieties, including desktop applications like TweetDeck, Seesmic, or EchoFon, websites such as TweetMeme, fflick, or Topsy, or mobile applications such as Twitter for iPhone, Twitter for Blackberry, or Foursquare.
Update 1: New authorization rules for applications
Starting August 31, all applications will be required to use “OAuth” to access your Twitter account.
What’s OAuth?
What does this mean for me?
Update 2: t.co URL wrapping
In the coming weeks, we will be expanding the roll-out of our link wrapping service t.co, which wraps links in Tweets with a new, simplified link. Wrapped links are displayed in a way that is easier to read, with the actual domain and part of the URL showing, so that you know what you are clicking on. When you click on a wrapped link, your request will pass through the Twitter service to check if the destination site is known to contain malware, and we then will forward you on to the destination URL. All of that should happen in an instant.
You will start seeing these links on certain accounts that have opted-in to the service; we expect to roll this out to all users by the end of the year. When this happens, all links shared on Twitter.com or third-party apps will be wrapped with a t.co URL.
What does this mean for me?
Thanks for reading this important update. Come and check what’s new at http://twitter.com.
Thanks,
The Twitter Team
Why I Will Not Run A PSIII - I Love Linux
“An Australian man who took Sony to court over the company’s decision to remove Linux functionality from the PS3 console has now lost his claim, with the court clearing the manufacturer of any wrongdoing regarding the upgrade.”
There are several class action suits going on about this. SONY does not like Linux, and the free, and open source community. I would have bought one…
Why pay money for games anyway? But, SONY does want to control entertainment. Let’s see what happens in other countries.
Hi All,
Every once in a while I kick back and look at things objectively. I do that from time to time.
I’m an Ubuntu Linux computer user and have been doing social networking - what they call Web 2.0 - before the term made a few people money. So far so good. I’ve often run with the herd, ran Microsoft, never wanted to deal with the MAC. I was being used, in some which way, or manner. Too many people frustrated or forking money over to a few people.
Not me.
Push one of those buttons below. And, you can see where your thoughts will go.
I run Free, Open Source, And Linux.
I may continue this, and tell you how this can be done.
Startup To Offer Angry Facebook Users An Alternative
“Internet Evolution” - By Ron Miller.
This week, Diaspora announced two important dates: September 15, when the startup releases its open-source code to the community, followed by the expected release of the Diaspora client sometime in October.
Is it possible for four young people, the ink barely dry on their NYU diplomas, to battle a social networking giant and win? Is there enough pent-up anger against Facebook to translate into a wholesale exodus from the site?
These young upstarts could have a chance. Last spring, I posted a poll asking the following question: “If a credible Facebook alternative came along, would you switch?”
I got 621 responses; and an overwhelming majority, 417 of those responding, chose the response: “In a heartbeat.”
Not long after I ran that poll, I heard about Diaspora. At the time (and to this minute) there was a growing frustration with Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook, a feeling that the powers that be who run the world’s largest social network are more obsessed with power and money than with your personal privacy concerns.
The rest here.

Well, the US government has gone broke. Too many people doing too little with Microsoft and wrapped around closed source software. Feel free about your future?

Hi All!
Think convergence. Your TV, your computer, all the Internet available content brought to you. Plus movies, TV shows, and news sources. Traditional network broadcasting and news print will disappear. New paradigm coming!
I like Boxee.
Since the launch of the Boxee Beta in January, users been vocal about their love of the TV Show Library – one place to search and browse full-length TV Shows from major networks across the web. For episodic content online, we think it’s the best experience you’ll find.

Today we’re adding the foundations of a new Movie Library to complement the TV Show Library. This new Movie Library includes thousands of films from four great launch partners: EZTakes, Indie Movies Online, MUBI* and Openfilm. Most of these movies are available for free (supported by ads). Explore each service’s catalogue using the ‘filter by provider’ option on the Movie Library sidebar.
“Everyone in the Linux world remembers Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s famous comment in 2001 that Linux is a ‘cancer’ that threatened Microsoft’s intellectual property. While Microsoft hasn’t formally rescinded its declaration that Linux violates its patents, at least one Microsoft executive admits that the company’s earlier battle stance was a mistake. Microsoft wants the world to understand, whatever its issues with Linux, it no longer has any gripe toward open source.”
I run Linux, I run Free!
